A Note from Jane
Diana - First of all the Brigitte Linen Sweater is leading the way in my winter sweater rotation. I LOVE IT. For those of us who are meeting you for the first time, will you tell us a bit more about yourself?
Hi! I am a proud born and raised New Yorker! After college, I started my career designing advertising for Macy’s. I was there for about 6 years when I left to start my own business in Graphic Design. I was doing a little freelance work on the side that turned from a side-hustle into another full-time job, so I made the decision to leave behind the corporate world for more creative freedom. Looking back it was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. I always say that being a graphic designer really gave me a leg up on being able to bootstrap Classic Six. Plus, having started a service based business first made starting a product-based one a little less scary. I already had a bit of understanding as to what it would take to be an entrepreneur.
What inspired the change to pursue more creative freedom? Why did you start Classic Six?
I loved my graphic design business, and like I said, if I wasn’t a graphic designer, I truly believe I never would have been able to start Classic Six, but I missed the fashion industry, and while I styled a bit here and there, I wasn’t working with fashion brands as often as I would have liked. I decided on a whim that I would start a fashion blog. It was during this time that I became completely overwhelmed with fashion. I was shopping excessively to share my inspiration and I was accumulating entirely too much. I started to think, if I am feeling this way, how many other women are feeling this same kind of overwhelm in their own closets and with fashion choice in general? This was the moment Classic Six was born….out of a passion for fashion and pure desire in my life to have less.
Our new store in NYC! What a journey that has already been. As often expected, we are having to pivot plans ( It is always a wild ride over here ;)) We moved out of our Sag Harbor location in October of 2024 with high hopes that we would be able to get settled into our new location before the holidays and that did not work out. We fell in love with a charming, but very run-down spot in the West village that needed a full Landmark renovation. (ie, lots and lots of red tape) The timeline for these renovations to be finished was not in our favor and presented a lot of risk for us so we very reluctantly had to walk away from it. That said, when one door closes another opens! We are hopeful to find our dream downtown location for a Spring opening!
My favorite pair of Pistola jeans, brown suede boots, my Katharine blazer and James tee, with our Cary sweater wrapped around me like a chic cozy security blanket.
How are you warming up this winter, coffee or tea?
Decaf coffee mixed with hot chocolate. HIGHLY recommended.
Your next vacation, lake, mountain, or beach?
Costa Rica! I’ve never been and I am very excited.
What are you binging right now?
Squid Games and I can barely sit down while watching, it is so anxiety provoking. I don’t know why I am doing it to myself!
What do you never leave home without?
Keys, wallet, phone and a lipstick (been using the same brand and color for years) I use it on my lips and cheeks for color throughout the day. Love anything that serves multiple purposes.
